Mobile Video Optimization
Wireless operators can now overcome the data deluge hitting their networks, using the full power of the cloud.
Skyfire's Rocket Optimizer is a robust mobile video optimization solution that solves unpredictable video and data demand with an elastic, surgical, cloud-based optimization platform. Skyfire provides wireless operators with a 60% boost in bandwidth capacity across smartphones, laptops, and tablets. Operators can now test Rocket Optimizer in their own environments using our regional cloud service.
Key Capabilities of Rocket Optimizer
Best-In-Class Performance
Skyfire’s mobile video optimization solution can instantly optimize nearly ANY video, enabling instant full transcoding, providing a 60% boost in bandwidth capacity while preserving best visual quality in the industry. Uniquely, this includes MP4 progressive download videos, which account for an estimated 70% of iPhone and iPad video, and 50% of all web video. Transitional legacy inline appliances, with their limited compute power, are forced to let most video pass by unoptimized (especially HD videos), for lack of processing capacity – while Skyfire allows mobile operators to dynamically control, in real time, the massive amounts of video and other high-bandwidth traffic coming across their networks. Capacity in the cloud can be used anywhere on the network, as dictated by policy or changing traffic patterns.

Rocket Optimizer 3.0 transparently caches video and large images in the cloud the very first time they are optimized, which reduces the number of servers required in the cloud or data center, as well as an operator’s peering and IP transit costs. CloudCache™ pools available storage across Rocket Optimizer servers, providing a multi-terabyte cache with zero incremental hardware cost.
Skyfire delivers up to 4x higher ROI than competing products, due to its robust and intelligent technology approach to network capacity management.

Flexible Architecture, Cloud Economics
The Rocket Optimizer solution is not only more powerful, but also much faster to deploy in the operator network, and less expensive to scale….thanks to the cloud. Its unique cloud-based architecture puts the heart of the compute power in the cloud, combining intelligent routing and steering in the network with low-cost COTS compute in an IP data center.

The cloud allows for fast deployment and ease of management, with interoperability with a variety of vendors that are installed in wireless networks already, including F5, Cisco, Procera Networks and Alcatel-Lucent. It supports the highest SLA’s with full geo-redundancy.
Rocket Optimizer is a virtualized platform compatible with carrier cloud initiatives, and allows operators to instantly expand mobile video optimization capacity to handle planned or unplanned spikes in network traffic. Additional optimization can be turned up in seconds as needed in the cloud – whether the carrier’s cloud or public clouds like Amazon EC2 - doubling or tripling capacity with the touch of a button. Only Skyfire’s flexible CloudBurst™ architecture allows for dynamic bandwidth elasticity that can stretch to sustain quality service delivery. |
Experience Assurance - Cloud-Based QoE Management
Measurement and mitigation of bandwidth congestion in real time is now possible for every subscriber session on the operator network thanks to Rocket Optimizer’s Experience Assurance technology, a cloud-based QoE management solution. For the first time, wireless operators can measure, quantify and instantly manage session-level quality of experience, without the need to deploy an in-line appliance or RAN probe. Skyfire software can now measure bandwidth conditions in real time for all subscriber sessions on a network, and detect when a user on a poor connection is trying to stream high-quality video that will likely result in a frustrating experience. This measurement can now automatically invoke Skyfire's cloud-based Rocket Optimizer cluster to adapt that video to fit existing capacity - taking into account RF, backhaul and spectrum bottlenecks. The end result is an insurance policy that ensures better QoE for users on crowded towers, inside buildings or at the edge of cells, as well as a solution that can “rescue” users from frustrating stalls, long video start times, and other annoyances.
